Retired educator, Greg Douglass, visited FES as the "Cat in the Hat" and read to kindergarten and first grade students during Dr. Seuss week.
Ms. Curtis' fourth grade Book Clubs had a blast presenting their Book Club projects.  Before creating and presenting their projects, each Book Club selected, read and discussed one of the Sunshine State Young Readers Award winning books.
The FES Lego League teams competed in their first qualifying competition at Davidson Middle School on January 27th. They scored well in their events and are looking forward to attending another event next year.

FES families participated in a night of Reading and Math challenges designed to help them "escape" from grade level rooms. The engaging and fun learning activities provided parents an opportunity for family-school interaction. Almost 300 parents and children attended the event.

As a culminating activity for a study on "author's craft in poetry", Mrs. Devine (amazing Title 1 tutor) read aloud her story, "Shoop the Sheep" to two 4th grade ELA classes during a "Poetry Picnic".  The students were so enthralled!  Mrs. Devine allowed the students to illustrate the way they visualized the poem/story and will use some of the students' illustrations in her book (when it is published).
